Amazing Story
What inspired Claire to donate
I first found out I was a universal donor when I was pregnant with my first child and I realised how important the blood service was. I had to wait until I had finished breast feeding until I could make my first donation. In the mean time my father was diagnosed with leukaemia. During his illness he received many many lifesaving red blood and platelet transfusions. Without those he definitely would not have lived for as long as he did. Sadly his leukaemia returned and he passed away. But I was even more inspired to be a blood donor. To be able to help another person and their family in the way that the generous donors helped my dad is very rewarding. It is my way to show my gratitude for those that allowed my Dad to be with us for a long as he was.
