Amazing Story

Saving Lives Since the 70's

frame 0 delay 0.4s
Steve’s been donating for decades. So long, in fact, that he can’t remember exactly when or why he started giving blood.

Right on cue he brings out his old record of service booklets. Each one of his donations is handwritten or typed in. The first record in the book from March 1978 shows he had already donated 12 times before that date.

What has kept him donating? Simple. ‘It’s the right thing to do,’ he says.

While he was living in Invercargill, he remembers, there was a young patient who needed a specific blood match. Steve was the person who fitted the bill, with his O Positive, Kell Positive blood.

‘Why wouldn’t you?’ Steve wonders aloud.
